Advertising Policy

Because the research materials provided in this section are and will remain an entirely free service, we have decided to conduct a small trial of content-driven advertising on selected pages. We receive only a few pennies (literally) each time a visitor clicks on an advertisement and no payment at all just for displaying the advertisement. (You may also see some advertisements for charities: we carry these advertisements for free.) Nonetheless, these few pennies will help defer the costs of maintaining the free service.

To return to mulhauser.net after clicking on an advertisement, just press the 'back' button on your browser. Alternatively, you may wish to open the advertisement in a new window by right-clicking (Windows) or control-clicking (Macintosh) on the link and choosing to open the link in a new window from the pop-up menu which appears.

The type of advertising which mulhauser.net is presently trialling on a limited basis works by intelligently delivering advertisements which are pertinent to the content of pages being viewed. By dynamically delivering advertisements on-the-fly, we ensure that advertising cannot bias the content or editorial policy of this site -- because the advertising depends on what is written, rather than what is written being influenced by the interests of whatever third party is paying for the advertising.

In other words, we produce a mulhauser.net page as usual, without regard for the interests of any potential advertiser, and if a given advertisement is relevant to the contents of that page, then it may be displayed. We have no way of knowing in advance whether an advertiser will like what has been written, so we are not influenced in any way by potential advertisers. (This also means we cannot make any comment about or any endorsement of advertisers, because we do not know in advance who they might be!)

This contrasts with the traditional way of providing advertising, where the financial relationship between a site and an advertiser may compromise the editorial integrity of the site.

We would be very glad to receive any comments at all on the impact which advertising has on your enjoyment of this site.
